Greenwich police find fake DEA badges and masks during arrest of New York man for theft

GREENWICH, Conn. (WFSB) - A New York man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a $500 pair of sunglasses from a local store in central Greenwich.

On June 26, an employee reported to police that a man and a woman entered the store, concealed a pair of sunglasses valued at $548, and left without paying.

Officers found 33-year-old Gentian Gjana, of Yonkers, NY, nearby an detained him.

Gjana denied stealing the glasses, but police say surveillance video confirmed the theft.

While searching his car, police found two balaclava masks, a large canister of pepper spray, a tactical vest and fake DEA badges, a knife over 4 inches and ten rounds of .44 Magnum ammunition.

Gjana was arrested and charged with 3 counts of forgery, 2 counts of possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny, possession of a shoplifting device and 10 counts of criminal possession of ammunition.

He was held on a $250,000 bond.
